  • Unlimited mileage for rentals shorter than 30 days within Albania

What’s not covered in Your Rental Fee:

  • Charges for using toll roads, bridges, and tunnels, both within Albania and internationally
  • International Motor Insurance, known as the Green Card, which covers the lessee’s liability for damages to other vehicles in accidents abroad
  • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) available for both domestic and international rentals
  • State taxes from regions outside Albania
  • Charges for ferries and border or customs fees
  • Costs associated with parking, including fines
  • All types of traffic fines, including speeding penalties, incurred both domestically and internationally during the rental period

Driver Age and License Requirements:

  • Drivers must be between the ages of 20 and 70.
  • The principal driver, along with any additional drivers (if any), must provide a valid driving license in their own name.
  • An international driving permit does not suffice on its own; a standard driving license is still required for vehicle rental.
  • There is a fee of 5.00 Euros per day plus VAT for each additional driver.
  • The vehicle handover and return process involves a Check Report, which is to be signed by both parties involved and is an integral part of the Rental Agreement.

Security Deposit for Rental:

At the time of vehicle pickup, the lessee must provide a deposit. The amount required varies depending on the vehicle category. Acceptable payment methods for the deposit include cash, bank transfer or credit card (MasterCard, Visa—non-prepaid—and American Express). The credit card must be registered in the name of the principal lessee or their accompanying party. This deposit is intended to cover any additional fees arising from breaches of the rental terms and conditions or from exceptions listed under the insurance policy. Should there be no infringements of the rental agreement, the deposit will be fully refunded at the end of the rental period.

Terms for Cancelling Reservations:

Fully Prepaid Reservations: Free cancellation up to 48 hours before rental starts. Within 48 hours, a fee equal to 3 days' rental. No refunds or charges for rentals less than 3 days.

Deposit Reservations: Cancellations more than 48 hours before start charged a fee equal to the deposit. Within 48 hours, charged the greater of the deposit or 3 days' rental.

Amendments: Free changes before rental starts; no refunds for early returns.

No Shows: 100% cancellation fee if the lessor is not notified before the rental starts.

Insurance Issues, Limitations, Obligations, and Coverage Terms:

  • The Third-Party Liability (TPL) insurance fully covers damages if an identified third party is responsible, validated by a police report.
  • If no third party is found liable, the Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection (CDW&TP) insurance is activated, subject to a deductible ranging from 300€ to 2000€. This assessment considers the nature of the damage and its cause, barring any scenarios specified in the Vehicle Insurance Exclusions List.
  • For all questions regarding vehicle insurance, the lessor is the sole authority.
  • At the rental counter, the lessee has the option to purchase additional coverage. This can reduce or eliminate the CDW&TP deductible, or extend coverage beyond what CDW&TP provides, as outlined in the Vehicle Insurance Exclusions List.
  • Should the warranty deposit be insufficient to cover additional charges incurred, the lessee must fully compensate the lessor for the remainder. If these dues are delayed, a monthly penalty of 10% of the outstanding amount is applied.
  • The lessor retains the right to maintain and utilize the lessee’s credit card information for up to twelve months following the conclusion of the rental period, in relation to this rental agreement.

Vehicle Insurance Exclusions List:

  • Interior cabin damages unless an external cause is verified by a police report.
  • Damage from fire resulting from smoking or lessee negligence.
  • Damage caused by a driver impaired by alcohol if confirmed by a police report.
  • Damage from a driver under the influence of illegal substances, as certified by a police report.
  • Any damage caused by an unauthorized driver or a driver with expired authorization.
  • Intentional damage by the lessee, such as throwing the vehicle into a deep abyss without signs of the driver inside, or crashes due to failure to engage the parking brake.
  • Vehicle theft or loss due to hijacking or if the original vehicle key is not provided by the lessee.
  • Undercarriage damages resulting from careless, irresponsible, or incorrect vehicle usage.
  • Damage from floods in public/private parking areas not caused by natural disasters.
  • Loss or damage of vehicle parts or equipment (such as wheels, wheel covers, tires, mirrors, spoilers, wipers, number plates, antennas, spare wheel kits, jack-compressors) without accident verification via a police report.
  • Damage from malicious acts, social or political disturbances like strikes, coups, wars, invasions, riots, terrorism, atomic explosions, radiation, intentional sabotage, chemical attacks, ambushes, or assassination attempts.
  • Damage due to tire blowouts or punctures as stated in a police report.
  • Costs for towing or carrier trucks if related to misuse or lessee faults.
  • Damage from driving improperly on unsuitable roads or through inappropriate conditions that do not match the vehicle’s specifications.
  • Any costs incurred (such as accommodation or alternative transportation) related to the vehicle’s issues.
  • Medical expenses or costs related to injuries or fatalities of drivers or passengers involved with the vehicle.
  • Situations where a third-party collision is concealed, or the lessee opts for CDW coverage over TPL; if CDW coverage is initially granted, the lessee must repay the amount if it's later found inappropriate.
  • Loss or theft of valuable personal items inside the vehicle, or damage to the vehicle’s interior, navigation system, radio, CD-changer, or documents due to break-in or because the vehicle was left unlocked.
  • Damage or losses to the vehicle during a period it is seized or confiscated by law authorities due to actions by the lessee.
  • Damage to interior parts like windshields or windows from improperly secured objects or passengers not using seat belts or proper child seats.
  • The lessee is obligated to report any accidents or collisions involving third-party vehicles or objects to the police immediately and not to flee the scene, as doing so may affect their insurance coverage. The lessee should not assume responsibility to protect other parties involved, as this could negatively impact their insurance standing. They are also required to contact the rental agency in all such instances. (Inland POLICE: CALL 126 or 129 or contact the nearest Police Station)

Policy on Replacement Vehicles:

  • The Lessor will provide a substitute vehicle at no additional delivery charge in the event of a defect with the original vehicle.
  • A substitute vehicle will also be provided at no delivery charge following the submission of a police report (which must include the vehicle's documents) detailing an accident. This is applicable under the following conditions:
  • A substitute vehicle is offered free of charge in cases covered by Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection (CDW&TP) or Third-Party Liability (TPL) insurance.
  • An additional fee is required for a second vehicle if CDW&TP/TPL coverage does not apply and the lessee requires another vehicle.
  • The rental fee for the initially rented vehicle will continue to accrue until the end of its rental term, and the vehicle will be returned to the lessee after repairs if it falls within the rental period.
  • Any substitute or additional vehicle provided will be subject to all terms and conditions of the original rental contract, including a new Warranty Deposit for the substitute or second vehicle.
  • The Lessor is responsible for the costs of repairing damages or failures to the substitute vehicle that are not due to misuse by the Lessee.

Lessee Responsibilities:

Vehicle Usage and Maintenance:

  • The lessee must coordinate regular and additional inspections, services, and interventions with the lessor.
  • Operate the vehicle responsibly, ensuring the safety of all passengers.
  • Avoid subleasing or trading the vehicle, towing other vehicles or items, and allowing unauthorized use.
  • Adhere to the vehicle’s specified carrying capacity and refrain from transporting illegal or improper materials.
  • Ensure proper placement of passengers and materials, avoiding use in hazardous conditions such as floods or ice.
  • No animals are allowed in the rented vehicle. If you let any animal in the vehicle, the rental company will impose the following penalties: Penalty Fee: €100; Cleaning Fee: €50;
  • A valeting fee of €50 per hour, up to a maximum of €150, will be charged for vehicles returned with persistent stains or odors that standard cleaning cannot address. This includes damage from smoking, food, beverages, and other substances. The rental agency will assess and apply this fee based on the severity and nature of the stains or smells upon vehicle return.
  • Comply with Albanian traffic laws and regulations; refrain from eating, drinking, or smoking in the vehicle; ensure the vehicle is equipped with functional spare wheels and necessary snow chains when required; avoid off-road driving and driving in wet clothes or sleeping in the vehicle.

Accidents and Damages:

  • Report accidents, thefts, or damage to the police and provide the lessor with the official police report or a decision from the Administrative Court for incidents abroad.
  • Promptly notify the lessor of any vehicle defects. Failure to do so may lead to greater damages, for which the lessee will be financially responsible.
  • Cover all costs for damages caused by poor-quality or improper fuel, misuse such as damaged clutch or engine components, and normal wear repairs like wheel balancing or tire replacements when damage is not verified by a police report.
  • Be accountable for all costs related to the loss or damage of vehicle keys, cabin cleaning if smoking occurs, and repair or replacement of damaged interior parts or documentation.

Substitute Vehicle and Road Assistance:

  • Assume all costs related to securing a substitute or second vehicle, or roadside assistance. This includes understanding that delivery times for such services will depend on the distance from Tirana to the breakdown location.
  • Manage special accommodations for ill, elderly, or disabled passengers during vehicle breakdowns.

Administration Charge and Immobilization Charge

Administration Charge:

Damage to the vehicle will result in charges imposed by the car hire company upon return.

In addition to the amount deducted from the excess, a Damage Administration fee will apply.

Immobilization Charge:

In the event of an accident, an Immobilization Charge is applicable.

This charge is mandatory and is calculated based on the car group and the number of days required for repairs.

Legal and Financial Responsibilities:

  • Settle all fines, interest on delays, and penalties incurred during the rental period.
  • Do not delay vehicle return or extend the rental period without approval from the lessor.
  • Fulfill financial obligations for incidents not covered by vehicle insurance.
  • Ensure rental fees are paid, even if the lessee’s driving license is withdrawn, and pay for additional drivers if needed.
  • Refrain from making any unauthorized modifications, repairs, or alterations to the vehicle.

Rental Period and Extensions

Duration of Rental

Rental Agreement: The rental period is based on the pick-up and drop-off times and dates that you agree to before your rental starts. Changes in these times, either by picking up the vehicle later or returning it earlier, will not result in refunds for unused rental time.

Late Returns

Grace Period: A 59-minute grace period is granted for the return of all vehicles. If you return the vehicle beyond this time, the insurance will no longer be valid, and you will be required to pay a late penalty fee plus the daily rental rate.

Insurance Validity: If the vehicle is not returned by the agreed drop-off time and date, insurance coverage will cease, exposing you to potential full liability for any damages or losses thereafter. Additionally, you will incur the cost of an extra day’s rental along with a penalty fee.

Amendments and Extensions

Need for Extension: If you require an extension of the rental period or need to make any amendments after the vehicle has been collected, you must return the vehicle to the original rental location to renegotiate and resign the rental agreement. This ensures that all terms, including insurance coverage, are properly updated and continue to protect both parties.

Vehicle Upgrade or Change at Pick-up

Vehicle Substitution: Should you decide to change the originally booked vehicle for a different one at pick-up, an additional fee may apply. This applies even if the new vehicle is smaller or of a similar size to the one originally booked.

Data and Privacy:

  • Acknowledge that data from the vehicle’s Black Box/GPS may be used as evidence in any disputes or claims related to accidents, theft, or fire.

Note on Flexibility and Adaptation of Terms:

The terms and conditions presented in this document are subject to adjustments and enhancements to better align with specific partnerships between Auto Grand Rental and international booking platforms. We typically enforce stricter terms for customers booking directly rather than through online services, reflecting the heightened risks like theft, failure to return vehicles, substantial vehicle damage, and prevalent fines within the regional market. Auto Grand Rental is dedicated to refining and simplifying these terms for customers who book through global online systems and platforms.
